Felix Owusu-Adjapong, a former member of parliament representing Akyem Swedru in the Eastern region and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has passed away.

The death was announced on Twitter by Majority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

He was 79.

However, details surrounding the former Majority leader’s passing are still hazy.

Annoh-Dompreh shared a picture of Mr. Owusu-Adjapong and expressed sympathy to his family.

“Deep condolences to the family… The former majority leader, Hon. Felix Owusu, passed on,” Annoh-Dompreh tweeted.

In the previous Kufuor government, the dead held the position of minister. He was a member of the second, third, and fourth Parliaments after being first elected in 1996.

Mr. Owusu-Adjapong left his job as a minister in 2007 to run for president of the NPP; he lost the election.

He did not, however, run for office in the 2008 general elections, and the NPP’s Joseph Ampomah Bosompem won with a majority of 8,469 votes.

He was appointed energy minister in June 2008 and served in that capacity until the conclusion of the Kufuor government in January 2009.
